Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, is a growing church in Norfolk, VA,

committed to serving God and loving our neighbors. We are seeking a dedicated, passionate,

and experienced Senior Pastor to join our congregation and lead us in spiritual growth and service.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS​

​​

  1. A deep commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost.
  2. A 2- or 4-year degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education from a theological institute and experience.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of ministerial experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of effective leadership, ministry development, and community outreach.
  4. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to interact with a younger and older congregation.
  5. Strong leadership skills, passionate about empowering others and fostering a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  6. A deep understanding of and commitment to the Bible and Christian theology.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, organize events, and work effectively with various ministries and other churches.
  8. A heart for pastoral care and the ability to provide compassionate and empathetic support to congregation members in need.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Provide the congregation with spiritual leadership and pastoral care, fostering a culture of faith, love, and service.
  2. Develop and deliver engaging, biblically based weekly sermons during worship services and on special occasions and events.
  3. Plan and lead services, collaborate with the worship team and ensure services are meaningful and spiritually enriching.
  4. Provide pastoral care for members of the congregation, including visiting the sick, counseling those in need, and offering support during times of crisis.
  5. Facilitate and encourage spiritual growth and discipleship by developing and implementing small group ministries, Bible studies, and other educational programs.
  6. Work with church leadership and staff to establish and execute a vision and strategic plan for the church's growth and leadership development.
  7. Engage and build relationships within the local community, participating in outreach and mission activities and collaborating with other organizations to address community needs.
  8. Assist in overseeing the administration and management of church operations, including budgeting, financial planning, and personnel management in the church office.
  9. Mentor, supervise, and support church staff and volunteers, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment with robust leadership development.
  10. Perform other pastoral duties, including weddings, funerals, and counseling.
